Sorting and Grouping

The new Sorting and Grouping option dramatically improves the browsing experience and once again features some unique twists.  
  • Sort and Group using any property.
  • Unique Group-within-Group allows you to further separate images with a group. For example, You can have images, grouped by type (jpg-s, png-s, etc) and then, within each group, divide them by year of creation.
  • Powerful auto-group feature aggregates images in broader groups - "tiny", "small", "medium", "big", "huge". This allows properties that vary greatly b/w images to be used for grouping as well.

  • Live Favorites - user favorites that are not just  shortcuts, but active folders.
  • Simple, menu-like layout, preserved even when browsing deep folder hierarchies (see screenshot).

Image Metadata

New Bottom Plane, showing quick overview of image properties. The plane itself is fully customizable:
 - Location of the in the window.
​ - Name and value style for each item.
​ - Arrangement of all items.
 - Custom properties selection (see below).

  • ​Select which properties are visible in the Bottom Plane. By clicking the green checkbox one can pick individual properties to appear in Bottom Plane overlay. Since 1.8.0 they also become available for Sorting and Grouping.

It is now possible to select multiple images at once. File operations like Move to Trash and drag-and-drop are no longer limited to just one file! The best part is, the selection will not change or "disappear" when you browse the folder - current file doesn't affect what's selected. 

Advanced thumbnails indicators

  • Thumbs selection trail - last few thumbnails, you picked will be highlighted for easy find in the future.
  • New Files added to the folder have their thumb marked with a "plus" sign, for easy find as well.
  • All indicators are available on the scrollbar as well, giving a complete picture over entire directory contents.

HiDPI support 

Fragment has now complete cross-platform HiDPI/4k Monitor Support!
Interface elements (UI), as well as thumbnails and other graphics, will be scaled up  and rendered with higher fidelity, to be much more comfortably used on monitors with high pixel density.
The HiDPI scaling will "just work" in the case of Win 8.1+ and OSX, respecting the OS settings. On older Windows and on Linux it should work automatically as well, by calculating monitor pixel density. Because this is not as reliable, and not well tested, there is also a global option to manually force upscaled UI.
  Note that upscale in any case is 2x only. For instance, on Win 8.1+, it will be activated if system Settings scale is above or equal 150% and the real used value will be 200%, below 150% no scaling will take place - scale is 100%, 1x. 

Other New Features

  • Remember Window Geometry global option
  • Visible Pixels option in "Fit" Menu - controls if image pixels should be visible as blocks or smoothed out when zoomed in.
  • Always On Top context menu option (Win and OSX only; Linux has this build in already in the titlebar menu)
  • ​Middle Mouse Button Click now has a "Smart Magnify" function, before only available through OSX "double tap" gesture. "Smart Magnify" itself is now enhanced as well.
  • ​Background Logo can now be made completely invisible, not just different sizes.
  • Browsing using the Space Key is no longer interrupted by non-autoplaying GIFs. Press and hold the space a tiny bit to actually start the GIFs play.
  • Preserve Image Visual Size HiDPI/Retina global option.
  • File Icons for assigned file types on OSX as well.
  • Trying to browse the folder if no image or folder is opened will bring up the "Open" dialog.

Fragment now correctly color corrects the image for display, using the embedded ICC color profile and the designated monitor profile.

Slideshow and Transitions

Much like every part of Fragment, Slideshow comes with a twist - every action you normally do, you can still do while in Slideshow - browse, edit, delete - everything is available while the Slideshow is still playing.  
What's more, Transition Effects are available not just for Slideshow, but for normal day-to-day Browsing as well!
  • Live Slideshow mode not limiting application functionality.
  • Slideshow Duration setting. (Random Order setting is planned as well)
  • Autoadvance option - much like Slideshow, but not fullscreen and does not hide the interface or the mouse.
  • Transition Effects for use in both Slideshow and/or normal Browsing.
  • 55+ Transitions, the majority of which are hand-crafted for Fragment, not seen before in any other application. (Premium)

Other Features

  • Linux: Fragment is available as direct download. See bottom of the page.
  • It is now possible to hide the interface completely (long-press Tab) [user request]
  • You can now set an image as Desktop Background Picture (Wallpaper) [user request]
  • ​​You can now double-click a panel to pin it open. This is useful if you what to pin a panel, which otherwise will close when the mouse is moved away. 
  • Significantly improved experience when viewing files over the network - the application will be much more responsive now.
  • Improved Fill viewing mode when browsing - it will try to be smart in remembering relative screen position b/w images and minimize the surprising scrolling.
  • Win: Fixed broken Drag and Drop to the Thumbnails Panel.
  • Win: Improved Win 10 support.
